Anniversary of Heaven's Gate Cult Mass Suicide approaches

15 years ago, on March 26, 1997, the bodies of 39 cult members were found in a rented mansion in Rancho Santa Fe, CA--victims of the largest mass sucide to ever occur on US soil.

Much has been written abut  this cult and its members, about the suicide, and its connection to the Hale Bopp comet and a UFO thought to be traveling in the shadows of the comet. 

Many people  beleive this was the end of the story, but ti was not...

Other former members followed the 39 in taking thier won lives or killing thier bodies to "exit their vehicles" and allow thier souls to connect with the UFO and the Next Level (Heaven).

The UNTOLD story of one former member is now told in the new book CLOSING THE GATE --now availabe.

Heaven's Gate Tennis Shoes -Remember the souls, not the soles!

There has been a lot of buzz on the blogs lately about the Nike Tennis shoes that the cult wore when they committed the mass suicide.

As a family member of one of those who followed the cults beliefs to the Next Level, I think its a sad statement about our culture that the tennis shoes get more publicity-- 11 years later-- than the precious lives lost on that day.

Is it the visual image that the shoes bring to mind of the bodies (vessels, to use their beliefs)that drives this buzz?

IS Nike creating the buzz?

Please remember the families and friends of those who left us on that day. Let's remember the souls, not the soles.

Largest Mass Suicide on US Soil

This occurred on March 26-27, 1997 when 39 Heaven's Gate Cult members took their own lives.

As the 14th anniversary approaches, I remember and honor my brother, Jimmy aka Gabody, who followed them in death by his own hand, 5 weeks later, in support of their beliefs.

Although my beliefs differ from his, I honor his memory and choice.

March 26, 2012 will mark the 15th anniversary of the mass suicide of the 39 Heaven's Gate members

Many people don't recall this tragedy; some don't realize that this was the largest mass suicide to ever occur on US soil

Others of us, who lost family members or friends-can't forget.

Suicide doesn't end with the end of a life. The pain and emptiness remains with those left to mourn.

My brother Jimmy, was a former member of the Heaven's Gate cult, and followed them in suicide.

I miss him every day.

Heavens Gate cult shoes

The shoes that were worn by Heavens Gate cult mass suicide participants have been redone by Nike--now the colors are black, purple and white--in my opinion, this is MORE refective of the cult, in that the shoe style is the same and now includes purple, which was significant to the cult ---they were covered in purple shrouds.

It will be interesting to see how the shoes sell, and I cant help but wonder why Nike is promoting this change--if they had simply put the shoes out for sale, most people woudl not have made the connection! Interesting marketing strategy. see link for the article
