Maryland Film Festival unveils comedy based on the HEaven's Gate Cult
The Kook — directed by Nat Livingston Johnson and Gregory Mitnick, this dark comedy was inspired by the Heaven's Gate cult. Sweet and idealistic Fa, a young woman in the cloistered cult of people who all wear yellow sweat suits and bowl haircuts. They're all true believers who are preparing to "depart from Earth" with their leader, when Fa discovers a disconnect. It's a great allegory on the challenge of questioning faith and finding an unexpected answer.
